Freedom of Information Act 2000 – Request for Information
We are pleased to respond to your request for information and our response is set out below:
Request /Response
I would like to make a formal request for information under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2005.
I would be most grateful if you could let me know the following by response of an email:
1. In your CCG is there any formal register kept of deaths occurring as a result of withdrawal of Clinically Artificial Nutrition and Hydration (CANH) that occur under the provisions of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and BMA/RCP/GMC Guidelines 2018?
No.
2. If such a register is kept can you advise if there is any independent internal or external audit made of such deaths and the degree to which there Is compliance with the BMA/RCP/GMC Guidelines, 2018 when such deaths occur?
Sheffield CCG does not hold this information. To fulfil this request we suggest you contact NHS England via england.contactus@nhs.net (Please write “Freedom of Information” in the subject line). Or alternatively you may wish to contact Sheffield Teaching Hospital via sth.foi@nhs.net.
3. Where deaths due to withdrawal of CANH are recorded and an audit is made of these, can you give an indication of the number such deaths in 2018 and in 2019 and the percentage of cases where the BMA/RCP/GMC Guideline Checklist has been used and fully completed?
Please see response to Q2.
